Lemon Crumb Muffins

Almost twenty five years ago our then chef Brenda came to us with an idea for a tempting menu item. Since then, our sinfully delicious Lemon Crumb Muffins have earned a reputation that draws visitors from all corners of Ohio, and beyond. Deceptively simple in appearance, these little temptations are a labor of love.

Like most magic, the making of the muffins is difficult to describe. To watch the process is to better understand just what makes them so irrisistable. 

Each batch begins with a flurry of activity, as our staff prepare the necessary ingredients. Dozens of lemons are carefully grated into mounds of fragrant zest, which is then folded into the batter. The batter is individually spooned into the baking tray, topped with struessel crumb blend, and baked to perfection under the watchful eye of desert chef Miriam. Meanwhile, staff busily prepare the glaze, blending sugar and freshly squeezed lemon juice into the magical syrup that gives these muffins their irrisistable semi-tart sweetness. 

When ready, the muffins emerge from the oven and are allowed to cool. Then, with great patience, each and every muffin top is carefully and repeatedly pierced by toothpick - up to 20 times per muffin - allowing the lovingly drizzled syrup glaze to seep in, bathing both the inside of the muffin and the outside in the signature Lemon Crumb Muffin glaze. The result is something truly magical: The Lemon Crumb Muffin, a Granary Restaurant Signature for over 25 years. So popular that we now offer them for carryout (and are delivered free with every furniture delivery!).
