History
SJ Pottery was begun in 1988 by Joseph Jostes and Susan Skinner. Joseph has been making pots since 1980, Sue since 1986. SJ Pottery is a limited producton potter studio, producing traditionally inspired redware, wood fired saltglazed stoneware, and whatever else catches their fancy.
Inspiration "At SJ Pottery, interpreting what has been done allows
us to add alink to the existing chain of traditional pottery. In retelling the traditional story we can offer a ware that feels familiar while still offering ourselves a personal voice with the creative process. Our hope is that our ware melds in with and adds an interesting fresh addition to your treasured favorites"
- Sue Skinner & Joe Jostes
Use and Care
SJ Pottery is lead free and dishwasher safe. We no not recommend microwave or oven use on any of our ware. Since redware is not suitable for long term storage of wet ingredients, think of your redware in terms of serving not storage. The redware pitchers and vases may be used for live arrangements by simply lining the piece with a jar or plastic tumbler. After serving in redware, we recommend emptying the bowls and platters and storing leftovers in something else. For dry storage, SJ Pottery redware will serve you well.
