J.L. Treharn - Fine Tiger Maple Reproduction Furniture
We are the oldest and largest stocking dealer of J.L. Treharn. Our entire third floor is dedicated to heritage design and decorating, and we're proud to showcase J.L Treharn. Treharn's collection of fine reproductions serves as a bridge connecting the present to the rich cabinet making traditions of the past. There are four things differentiate the furniture of J.L. Treharn from all the rest:
Materials
J. L. Treharn has some of the most beautifully figured Tiger Maple we've seen.
Design
Details that stand that test of time.
Construction
Hand made, dovetailed drawers, mortise and tenon joints, bread-board ends, all under the watchful eye of master craftsmen Jerry Treharn.
Finish
A pre-catalyzed lacquer that is heat and moisture resistant - and beautiful.
Handmade? You bet! Down to the smallest details, J.L. Treharn creates heirloom quality pieces -
from hand planed and carved select pieces of tiger maple to the cast brass hardware.
You can meet Jerry Treharn and his family at our annual Colonial Williamsburg Festival. Each year J.L. Treharn and Co. are on hand making Windsor chairs, hand-planing tables, and answering questions about their furniture.
J.L Treharn and Co. uses restoration glass made the same as it was over 200 years ago. The glass they use is a mouth blown glass whose characteristics are exactly the same as old original antique glass made before the advent of modern window glass. A team of artisans work together, utilizing knowledge, sensitivity, and physical strength to produce original Restoration Glass. The glass is gathered on the end of a blowpipe and is continually worked and swung over a deep pit until a large cylindrical shaped balloon is formed. This distinct step is necessary to create the unique characteristics found only in original Restoration Glass.
A great deal of experience and strength to work the large glowing balloon of glass. It takes smooth, even movements from a very skilled Glassmaster to create a uniform piece.
